What I have learned!

I have definatly learned more than I thought I would about digital design. I think I have a better understanding of what makes a good picture. I have found myself randomly thinking that something would make a really good picture. Photoshop is obviously an area that I have advanced my knowledge. I tried working the program before we started it in class, and it did not happen. Now, I can confidently say I can do pretty much anything in photoshop. I'm really interested in making panoramas. Its interesting to see so much area in one photo. I learned a little bit in Illustrator, but I know a lot more can be done with the program. It just takes some time to get used to. Throughout everything that I have learned I would say creating collages or funny pictures in photoshop is what I enjoyed most.

LoGo

This is a logo for the Tia Zia Mexican Restaurant. I used bevel and enbose to create the letters and mostly the paint brush to create the Mexican flag in the background.

LoGo Website!

This site, http://www.ndesign-studio.com/resources/tutorials/3d-logo/, shows how to create 3D logos and 3D shapes. It tells the steps of making a word, then says the same steps can be applied in making 3D shapes, would could help some people out. I started out with a Google search, then just came across this site. I think it is really simple, but has the potential to be really helpful. This site also has tutorials for making other specific designs in illustrator. They include everything from pumpkins, trees, logo, and much more. I will defiantly use this site if it will help me in making my specific logo.

¡Panorama!

This is the view outside the back of my house. I first took a picture of my garage, then my neighbors house, then the left side of my back yard. To make the panoramic image I matched up the images then erased, with a really soft edge, the dividing lines of the pictures. I also had to add brightness to the pictures in order to match them all and to make the image easier to see. It wouldn't have been possible to take this picture and include all the surrounding in one image.

Digital Photography Tips!

The first tip that I find most important is the experiment tip. Photos that are shot at a unique angle are the most interesting. Also if the focal point of the image is not in the center of the final product makes the image more appealing. I like the idea of taking shots of the same object from different angles, this way, its the same image, but you are able to choose the best angle. The next important tip is checking the background. Nothing ruins a good picture like a distractive background. I don't know how many pictures I have seen that have random people or objects in the background, this just looks tacky. The third tip that I found helpful was the rule of thirds. I have always heard of it, i just never knew what is was till now. By using the rule of thirds, you can center an image or you can align it to the side to create a different point of interest. I think this tip is most helpful in digital photography because it helps keep an image orderly.

Logos Good and Bad

Bad Logo
This Logo is pretty bland and boring, I don't like it. It does have a lot of information about the church; however, there is not a lot of color which makes the logo boring and less appealing. It would be much better if there was color to go along with the good information.

Good Logo!

I think this logo is much better. I like the city in the background because I can tell its the New York Mets, otherwise I wouldn't have known. I think all the graphic and the letters inside a baseball adds more of an effect.

Photoshop.com

I went to photoshop.com and tried to go to "take a test drive", but it wouldn't let me. So, i looked at the images on the front screen of the web site. It seems like it can do pretty much everything that photoshop does. I noticed there was a lot of color popping and hue changes. Some images were distorted just like real program would do. This site looks like it would be pretty useful to someone who didn't have access to the photoshop program, but could use the internet.

To me, this image is "determination". The boys are tired and sweaty, but they still come together and play.
I edited this image in Photoshop.
1st- Image>Adjustments> Black&White
2nd- select custom and the tint box.
3rd-adjust the colors, then click OK.

This image is "passion." Basketball is my favorite sport, this image reminds me of the game.

1st- Croped the image
2nd-Filter>liquefy, then mess up the background, click OK
3rd-Use circle marque around the ball
4th-Image>adjustments>color balance>
-60, -10,+100
5th-Use magnetic lasso on the hoop, repeat step 4

Professional Interview: Connie Gildersleve

I interviewed Connie Gildersleve, she is a professional photographer.
Q: What are your basic design principals?
A: "Mostly sends things to the lab. She uses a lot of black and white, adding script to pictures, and creates a lot of montages lately."
Q:What would be some tips for success?
A: "Hire more help if you need it, be able to commit a lot of time. Enjoy what you do and be organized. Protecting your work by copyright is very important. Stamping PROOF in the middle of the pictures, or asking for an upfront deposit is helpful."
Q: What is your favorite photo editing software?
A: "Photoshop is amazing, but can get overwhelming. Elements is made by the same company and is a smaller less complicated version of photoshop."
Q: How many years have you been a photographer?
A: "Enjoyed taking pictures all my life, but i have made a business out if it for the past 8 years."

Picture Blog

I chose these pictures because they caught my eye. The Building in a mirror makes you look at closely at the picture to understand what it is. The lighthouse it interesting because the focus is on the light beams coming from the tower. In the picture with the sheep and the rainbow, the first object your eyes go to is the rainbow, from there everything just adds to the picture. The pink flower with the raindrop is really pretty. The water droplet has a tree reflection in it which makes the picture even more amazing. The last picture, of the beach and balloons is my favorite. The person is not in the center, he is off to the side. The entire picture is black and white, but the balloons are bright. I also like how it shows the endlessness of the beach. The way city in the background fades into the fog adds character to the picture.

Photoshop for digital Photographers

The other podcast that I subscribed to was "Photoshop for digital Photographers." This episode was about opening an image as a smart object. I learned how to use "actions" to add effects to the image. Using actions to effect an image you can make it lighter or darker. You can also make one image stand out over the others. This will help you in photoshop because all the lightening and darkening effects are in one area. To open a photo as a smart object, go to File>open as smart object. The "actions" button is in the layers pallet.

Postcast of Photoshop

I watched a few podcasts on iTunes, but the one that stuck out was "How to do Complex Masking". This took a person and put her on a different background. There were a lot of steps, so it would take awhile to catch on to. I think that would be a useful tool to make funny pictures or to make a new pictures out of one that wasn't so good. I did think that podcast was really interesting though, because i didn't realize you could do that.

Apple Gallery

I went to the Apple Gallery, and i found it confusing. I would click on a picture and it would only show me one picture, i couldn't see a gallery of pictures. So it would help if it was more user friendly, or maybe I'm just dumb! I think it is a pretty good idea and place for people to share there photos and other works. I don't really know what adjustments could be made, because i couldn't even figure it out the way it is.

Atomic Learning

3 of the 5 videos I watched were "How to upload from a Digital Camera", "How to Add Text", and "How to brings out some colors". To upload from a digital camera, use adobe bridge and upload them. To add text, just use the T on the tool bar and type the text you want. You can change the text the same way you do in Word. To bring out certain colors, go to Filters and you can control what colors you want to dim and what colors you want to bring out. And that is what i learned about photo shop.
