Professional Interview: Connie Gildersleve

I interviewed Connie Gildersleve, she is a professional photographer.
Q: What are your basic design principals?
A: "Mostly sends things to the lab. She uses a lot of black and white, adding script to pictures, and creates a lot of montages lately."
Q:What would be some tips for success?
A: "Hire more help if you need it, be able to commit a lot of time. Enjoy what you do and be organized. Protecting your work by copyright is very important. Stamping PROOF in the middle of the pictures, or asking for an upfront deposit is helpful."
Q: What is your favorite photo editing software?
A: "Photoshop is amazing, but can get overwhelming. Elements is made by the same company and is a smaller less complicated version of photoshop."
Q: How many years have you been a photographer?
A: "Enjoyed taking pictures all my life, but i have made a business out if it for the past 8 years."

Picture Blog

I chose these pictures because they caught my eye. The Building in a mirror makes you look at closely at the picture to understand what it is. The lighthouse it interesting because the focus is on the light beams coming from the tower. In the picture with the sheep and the rainbow, the first object your eyes go to is the rainbow, from there everything just adds to the picture. The pink flower with the raindrop is really pretty. The water droplet has a tree reflection in it which makes the picture even more amazing. The last picture, of the beach and balloons is my favorite. The person is not in the center, he is off to the side. The entire picture is black and white, but the balloons are bright. I also like how it shows the endlessness of the beach. The way city in the background fades into the fog adds character to the picture.

Photoshop for digital Photographers

The other podcast that I subscribed to was "Photoshop for digital Photographers." This episode was about opening an image as a smart object. I learned how to use "actions" to add effects to the image. Using actions to effect an image you can make it lighter or darker. You can also make one image stand out over the others. This will help you in photoshop because all the lightening and darkening effects are in one area. To open a photo as a smart object, go to File>open as smart object. The "actions" button is in the layers pallet.

Postcast of Photoshop

I watched a few podcasts on iTunes, but the one that stuck out was "How to do Complex Masking". This took a person and put her on a different background. There were a lot of steps, so it would take awhile to catch on to. I think that would be a useful tool to make funny pictures or to make a new pictures out of one that wasn't so good. I did think that podcast was really interesting though, because i didn't realize you could do that.

Apple Gallery

I went to the Apple Gallery, and i found it confusing. I would click on a picture and it would only show me one picture, i couldn't see a gallery of pictures. So it would help if it was more user friendly, or maybe I'm just dumb! I think it is a pretty good idea and place for people to share there photos and other works. I don't really know what adjustments could be made, because i couldn't even figure it out the way it is.
